Simone Tagliapietra is a Senior Fellow at the Bruegel institute in Brussels and a Professor of European Energy and Climate Policy at the School of Transnational Governance (STG) of the European University Institute in Florence, as well as at the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) of Johns Hopkins University in Bologna. Previously, he was a Researcher in Economic Policy at the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, where he earned his Master’s degree in 2012 under the supervision of Professor Alberto Quadrio Curzio, and where he also obtained his Doctorate degree in 2015 under the supervision of Professor Roberto Zoboli. His research focuses on EU climate and energy policy and its industrial and social dimensions. With a strong track record of policy and scientific publications, including in journals such as Nature and Science, he is the author of Global Energy Fundamentals (Cambridge University Press, 2020) and co-author of The Macroeconomics of Decarbonisation (Cambridge University Press, 2024). Over the years, he has developed an extensive track record in supporting European and national institutions on energy and climate policy, alongside a strong public engagement on these issues. This is complemented by regular seminars and lectures at academic institutions in Italy and abroad. Among his various current roles, he serves as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Clean Air Task Force (CATF) in Boston—one of the leading U.S.-based non-governmental organizations working on environmental policy—and as a Senior Associate at the Payne Institute of the Colorado School of Mines in Golden
