Profile

Donato Romano is Professor of Agricultural Economics and Director of the PhD Program in Development Economics and Local Systems – DELoS at the University of Florence, Italy. He holds a PhD in Forest Economics and Policy from the University of Florence, Italy. Professor Romano served as researcher at the University of Tuscia, Viterbo, prior to join the University of Florence as associate professor. He has been Visiting Scholar at the Food Research Institute, Stanford University, and Visiting Professor at the Centre de Recherche en Économie du Développement, Namur University. Professor Romano has been President of the Italian Association of Agricultural and Applied Economists – AIEAA and Vice-President of the Italian Economic Society – SIE, where he contributed to establish the Consultative Group of Economic Associations – CASA-Econ, and served in the Board of the European Association of Agricultural Economists – EAAE. He is also member of the Accademia dei Georgofili and of the Accademia Italiana di Scienze Forestali. Prof. Romano has published more than 100 papers and books. His current research interests include food and nutrition security analysis, with a focus on household vulnerability and resilience, and the analysis of the impact of climate change on conflicts and violence. He has been a consultant to many international organizations including the EU Commission, FAO, IFAD, WFP and the World Bank.
