Profile
Prof. Figalli is a chaired professor of mathematics at ETH Zürich and is currently the director of the Institute for Mathematics Research at ETH. He is an expert in the calculus of variations and partial differential equations, and he is a scientific advisor and board member for several institutes and universities. He holds Doctorate Honoris Causa from several universities. In 2018, he received the Fields Medal for “his contributions to the theory of optimal transport, and its application to partial differential equations, metric geometry, and probability”.
