Catherine Brice is Professor Emeritus of Contemporary History at the University of Paris-Est Créteil (CRHEC), honorary member of the IUF, and fellow at the ICM (Institut Convergences Migrations). A specialist in the Risorgimento and liberal Italy, she works on the economic aspects of political exile, confiscations, and reparations for the victims of the 19th-century revolutions. She has notably published Monumentalité publique et politique à Rome : le Vittoriano (Rome, Collection de l’EFR, 1998), Histoire de Rome et des Romains de Napoléon Ier à nos jours (Paris, Perrin, 2007; reissued 2019; translation Viella), and Monarchie et identité nationale en Italie, 1861-1900 (Paris, Éditions de l’EHESS, 2010). She directed Exile and the Circulation of Political Practices (19th Century), Cambridge Scholars, 2020; co-directed with Gilles Bertrand and Mario Infelise Asile-Exil.
